Fundraising has long been referred to as a necessary evil. We think about it as the thing that we have to do, but really don’t want to do, with the sole purpose being of funding the work of our nonprofit.
At this point, you might be thinking that I have totally lost my mind because OF COURSE, Mallory, fundraising is about raising money for our nonprofit’s work 👀
But what if it’s about more than that?

What if in addition to the money moving to power your organization – the act of donating ITSELF was creating movements, community, networks, and identities?
What if every time someone donated to your animal shelter they became more committed to supporting rescue dogs?
What if they finally became a cat person?
What if they became a more empathetic and thoughtful person?
Well, guess what, they do. The donor changes. This means fundraising isn’t just meant to power the work, it IS the work.
The donor becomes the person who they want to be.
And who YOU need in your community.

The problem is that we believe fundraising is always cringy, annoying, pesky, and rude.
But it’s not.

Those beliefs, the ones you might be aware of or you might not even know about yet, are robbing donors of opportunity and holding your organization back from what you are truly capable of.

You believed what you were told one time from that cranky uncle, or because you think your newsletter feels the same as that fake-urgency political fundraising email, or that an invitation to an event is the same as being chased down by a relentless canvasser.
